This week I made two 3D models using Tinkercad and Sketchup. My knowledge is very basic at this point but I have learned a lot from experimenting with these two platforms.
Here are some of the Tinkercad models that I have made in the past. Some were made by following along with the Tinkercad introductory videos.
For my first creative assignment I decided to make a trophy for my family's cat, Clyde. He is getting older and I like the idea of making things that commemorate his life. Tinkercad is a lot easier to use than Sketchup and I would recommend it before recommending Sketchup because the design is a lot more intuitive. Tinkercad is similar to Sketchup because you can download pre-made objects. This certainly reminds you to consider what can and can't be replicated online. It also reminds us of the value of creating something that has not already been made. The hardest part of this project was getting the two stars to line up perfectly.
Here is a video of my sketchup model!
I chose to make a space that I would enjoy living and working in. The best part of working in sketchup is playing around with unexpected angles. My favourite took in sketchup is the "move" tool which allows you to align objects perfecting with existing angles. I also enjoyed searching for and downloading objects. One challenge that I couldn't find an answer to was how to make a curved ceiling for the two semi-circle walls I created. Instead I played around with an accent wall. I have a feeling that this building would be extremely difficult to create in real life but I enjoyed being able to consider what I would make without any constraints. I wanted to incorporate plants into my building because I enjoy thinking about the contrast between inside and outside
