Final Project Reflection

This has been a fun journey! I have departed from my proposal a bit but there are some main points that I really wanted to make sure I was able to include in my final game. I wanted to make sure that there were three scenes and that each one had a soundtrack. It was also important to me that the soundtrack of the non-utopia scenes were educational and I decided to use Greta Thunberg's 2018 Ted Talk and speech at the 2019 Climate Action Summit. The utopia scene just has dramatic music because when you enter this scene you have won the game. In Utopia the player can alter the sphere surrounding the flower by changing its color when they bump into different color cubes.

It was important to me that the player can move between scenes with portals. Originally I wanted them to be difficult to find. At the moment they are quite easy to find because it makes the game less time consuming. When I was playing the game I decided that the change in scenes was what excited me the most. The changes in sky scape, sound, and terrain were the most interesting for me to interact with. The last scene "hells scape" has a "game over" message in the corner but you can still bump into the portals and start over. The main game is really in the "current world" scene where you can pick up cans and see your score increase.

I was able to build this project to WebGL. Below is a link to my project on simmer! I think that this is probably the easiest way to experience the game and asses what has been created.

This film is from an older version of the game. It contains some images of my progress at the end. I debated wether or not to include this but I think that it gives a little context for some of the process.

I have learned so much in this class. I feel comfortable with unity now and far more capable of reading little bits of code. I don't play video games and I don't have any coding experience so this was truly outside my comfort zone at the bringing of the semester. This class opened my eyes to the opportunities that Unity can provide both for art, education and play! I plan to revisit this game, I had fun showing it to my friends and I can totally see this being a nice group project for a lesson plan.
