Differences between building for VR and building for AR

What I find interesting about the differences between building for VR and AR is how they change the way the player interacts with the game as well as how it affects our experience creating the games. The primary difference I found in creating was TIME! My experience building for AR has been that it takes a very long time to build and run the game. I think this can be a little discouraging because I am less likely to check and see what the game looks like while I am working. This leads to more mistakes and frustration in fixing them. The other main difference I see is the ability for the player to interact with the game. With the VR headset we can't touch the screen so the ability to interact with the game is very limited. The "camera nose" is a great idea for creating some options for interaction but it still has limitations. In AR I liked being able to see how the game was reacting to my movements in real time. I am still getting used to VR but I am excited to learn more.

This was my first experiment using the VR box!

Spotlights & Environment

This week I watched the recording of class as I had another class on November 4th. I decided to develop my environment by adding coloured spotlights! I also added the cylinder nose onto my camera. I enjoy altering environments in Unity but I do find that it can be unexpectedly difficult to place objects. If I am looking a the object I am placing and then change my angle I often find that the object is much further away than I had previously been able to see.

What was the most difficult to grasp?

I had some trouble following along with the code. I started to get error messages towards the end of the my script and I haven't been able to figure out what I messed up. I couldn't find the script in the shared folder.

How can I integrate what we learned into my final project?

I loved the part of class where we learned about directional light, spotlights, and changing the colour of your light source. I would certainly like to incorporate this into my game. I like the idea of using spotlights to guide the player to their next step or task. I also enjoyed including sound! I would certainly like to include different sounds in my game. I am excited to explore these elements more as we move toward our final projects.
