Turtle Art Lesson: The Random Block

Writer's picture: Lily SpearmanLily Spearman

For this section of this week's exploration of Turtle Art I have made a mini lesson plan that would teach the class about the random block.

What does the random block do?

The random block allows you to randomly select a number

What can you use it for?

This random number can be used to input/select a color or distance.

Does the block take parameters or input values?

The block can take parameters.

If so, how do they change the behavior of the block?

These can constrain the behavior of the block.

What are two to three examples of programs that use that block?

Programs that use the block include color selection and movement. This Mondrian painting uses the random block in multiple ways (both color and movement).

.

Reflection

Did you know anything about your block before you started this assignment? If so, what did you know?

I understood the general concept of what it means for something to be randomized but I didn't understand the full extent of the ways in which this could elevate a Turtle Art project.

How did you approach tinkering with this block? Describe what specific steps that you took.

I think that this is the most fun block to tinker with because it creates something new every time.
